Yes, these are the lazy days of summer...but...

Sometimes we need to be prepared for the next day's activities. Between baseball, softball, dance and scouts, plus season passes to our local amusement and water park, rarely a day goes by when we don't need to prepare for something. How do we keep it sane?

Simlilar to how we handle the school year!

We have our family calendar, color coded, like I described last Thursday.  Each night, we look at it as a family, and decide a game plan. Does Daddy drive, or does Mom? What do we need prepared? Are uniforms cleaned? Are dance shoes together? Do we have clean beach towels? We then put the items needed into the containers where we need them. For instance, the baseball uniforms are hung on the front hall pegs, with hats, bags and cleats right there. If we're going to the water park, we lay out our beach bags, inner tubes, bathing suits, flip flops, sunscreen and passes. If we're going to the amusement park, we pack the cooler with sandwiches and drinks, fruit, veggies and a treat. We typically lay out clothes if we're going somewhere. That way, we just grab and go!

It's working well. We've made it to the amusement park four times so far. We've made every game and practice. We've just added dance to the mix, but it shouldn't interfere.

What family organization tricks do you use to help you through the summer months?

BAGS. During the school year, backpacks for school. Summertime bags for the library, for dance, for swimming. Each bag has its purpose. In our Missouri home, we had hooks for the bags by the back door. In our North Dakota townhouse, we have them in a corner since we don't really have strong enough pegs in the entryway, and the back doorway is actually the laundry nook. But I'm a total bag lady

I have to integrate bags. That would be perfect! I just purchased a small pink and black backpace for amusement park days. I'll have to expand it. Thanks for the great idea!
