End of summer
Today was my least favorite time of each season. The day when we clear out the kids' drawers and closets, in anticipation of the new outfits. This has proven to be a tedious, weekend long task in the past, but today, I tried a new idea, and it worked well.
First, each child was given a laundry basket. Then they were assigned an "area" that was all theirs. This area allowed each of them privacy for when they would need to try on their clothes to gauge if they still fit. I sat in the middle of the area to supervise. I also made the final decision on if clothing became dustrags, hand me downs, garage sale or donation clothing. Those piles were behind me.
One by one, the kids each filled up their baskets with their clothes. First, they brought their underwear and pajamas. Then came tee shirts and shorts. Finally, we worked on the closet. Every item of clothing was checked out for fit, comfort and wearability. Everything was placed back in the right place, neatly and nicely folded. We know who needs underwear, who needs socks, and who needs jeans.
All in all, this project only took a little over 3 hours. Considering I have 3 kids with short attention spans, I was pretty impressed!
